Lincoln’s newest bank opening soon. No money required… just your time

The Christchurch harbour suburb of Lyttelton has been running a successful “Timebank” for awhile now. Timebanks are similar to a L.E.T.S. (Local Exchange Trading Scheme). Lincoln, a country town in the Selwyn District Council area, on the outskirts of Christchurch City, is in the process of starting up their own Timebank.

Matthew Slater develops software used in their running, and at this meeting, he demonstrated using playing cards how money works (and sometimes doesn’t) to help enable trading.

I apologise that the camera was affected by glare from the setting sun (my bad, I should have changed where I had set up). The evening was fun and informative.

Thanks also go  to Sarah Pritchett, part of the Lincoln Timebank initiative, for organising this demonstration evening, which was held at the swish new Events Centre in Lincoln, supported by Envirotown and the Selwyn District Council.
